What is the Great River Race?
The Great River Race is London’s River Marathon, a spectacular boat race of 21.6 miles along the Thames. Over 2,500 competitors (of all ages and abilities) take part, ranging from those trying to beat a previous times, to crews dressed in fancy dress raising money for charity.
We’re looking for rowers to join our amazing team. It’s a gruelling event, but great fun and such a great way to raise awareness and funds for Kids Matter. So if you’re up for the challenge and keen to make a real and lasting difference to children across the country, we’d love to hear from you.
Simply complete the form below on this page to register and secure your place on the boat. We will then send you details on next steps.
Key details
Don’t forget the date – this year’s race will be taking place on Saturday 21 September, 2024.
A commitment to fundraising – by entering to be part of the team, you are committing to raise a minimum of £647.00 (the cost of reaching one child). See more on this below.
Practice rows – you will need to ensure you can make at least one of the practice rows. These will be held on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 12th September.
For more information – you can take a look at our helpful event flyer which gives more information about why we’re taking part, what’s involved, and how you can help children living in poverty.
Fundraising
Our fundraising target for this event is £12,940. You might think why such a specific total? Well we’re serious about this event making a difference. The cost of reaching each child is £647, and this total will allow us to reach 20 children. This is a small cost to pay in order to give a child a better chance at life, especially when you consider the cost of late intervention.
We are asking each rower to commit to raising funds for at least one child, either in the form of your own donation, or by fundraising through your friends and family and other contacts. What’s more, we’re really excited to have secured match funding, resulting in all donations being doubled, meaning we can reach even more children!
