Meet Steve – new National Engagement Lead at Kids Matter

In 2024, we welcomed Steve Bunting as National Engagement Lead. As an ordained church leader, Steve’s experience and insight makes him a perfect fit for the role, and he is driven to grow partnerships across the UK. Get to know Steve in a quick Q&A – as he shares his vision for seeing every child in need raised in a strong family.

What excites you most about the mission and work of Kids Matter?

I love that way that Kids Matter partners with the local church around the United Kingdom to transform the lives of children through equipping parents with competence, confidence and community. It is so exciting to constantly hear stories from parents whose whole life has been transformed by gathering with other parents, in the safe space of the local church.

Can you share your previous experience and how that could help you in this role?

I have been involved in ministry in the church for over 20 years and have been an ordained church leader for the last 13 years. This has given me invaluable insight into the role and demands of church leaders and churches in 2025, and how Kids Matter can complement and enhance their ministry. I can relate to those challenges as someone who has experienced them myself!

How do you approach relationship-building with new and existing partners, and what strategies do you think are most effective?

I love building relationships with new and existing partners. I am a northerner, and we say things how they are! I love just coming alongside partners, hearing what hopes and dreams they have for ministry, sensing their heart for families and working together with them to see how Kids Matter can be part of that dream.

What are your goals or expectations for your role within the partnerships team for the next year (2025)?

Our Partnership team has a goal of 25 new partners in 2025. We would love to establish clusters of new partners in Bristol and Liverpool as well as with church networks and Dioceses around the UK.
