Sheila’s Story

Sheila’s Story

I was honoured for the opportunity to attend the Baby’s Matter 6-week programme, and I gained a lot of knowledge from the group. I liked how small the classes were, which meant that sharing and being able to be open and vulnerable about our personal lives was made easy – also in the way that our facilitator herself was open, authentic and vulnerable in her sharing as she led the group.

We had a booklet that we followed. This meant that, for example, when I wasn’t well, I still had the opportunity to not miss out on the topics.

The group was so much fun, each session I attended made me want to come back again because of how friendly the mums were and how our facilitator led the group. She helped us create a safe space together. Each session I attended I laughed until I cried because although we had a set plan in the booklet, our facilitator was very good at making the information personalised and she shared her own stories; it was relatable and made it more easier to share our own. We also have a Whatsapp group where we connect and support each other.

It was sad to see the group end as I looked forward to attending. It would be helpful to have a group, if possible, at some point for the parenting team and/or dads as the parenting team are vital.
